Irish VAT rates at a glance

  • Standard rate: 23% — most goods and services.
  • 13.5% — a reduced rate for certain goods and services (for example parts of construction and repair).
  • 9% — a reduced rate for certain categories such as some hospitality and printed matter.
  • 4.8% — applies to certain agricultural inputs.

To use a reduced rate, type it into the rate box (the calculator switches to a custom rate). The presets default to the 23% standard rate.

Adding and removing 23% Irish VAT

Add VAT: net × 1.23 = gross. €100 net → €123 gross (VAT €23).

Remove VAT: gross ÷ 1.23 = net. €123 gross → €100 net (VAT €23).

For the reverse direction in detail, see the reverse VAT calculator. For cross-border or EU B2B sales, the reverse-charge mechanism often means the seller invoices without VAT.
