Czechia consolidated its old three-rate structure (21/15/10) into two rates — 21% and 12% — from January 2024, so older invoices showing 15% or 10% are simply pre-2024 documents. Czech VAT is called DPH (daň z přidané hodnoty).

Koruna conversions at 21%

  • CZK 1,000 net → CZK 1,210 (DPH CZK 210).
  • CZK 1,210 ÷ 1.21 = CZK 1,000 net.
  • CZK 10,000 net → CZK 12,100; CZK 121,000 gross → CZK 100,000 net (DPH CZK 21,000).
  • At 12%: CZK 500 → CZK 560 (DPH CZK 60).

Registration and filing basics

  • Threshold: VAT registration is required once turnover exceeds CZK 2,000,000 in a rolling 12-month period. Expecting to cross it? You register from the day it becomes certain, not afterwards.
  • Filing: returns are filed monthly, or quarterly for smaller taxpayers, through the Financial Administration’s portal; VAT payers also submit a VAT ledger alongside.
  • Reverse charge: domestic reverse charge applies in construction and selected sectors; EU cross-border services reverse-charge automatically for B2B. Czech VAT numbers start with CZ.
  • Authority: the Czech Financial Administration (Finanční správa) administers DPH.

Czech VAT questions

What is the VAT rate in Czechia?

21% standard, with a single reduced rate of 12% for food, medicines, books and other essentials — the two-rate structure has applied since January 2024.

Divide by 1.21. CZK 1,210 including DPH becomes CZK 1,000 net with CZK 210 of VAT.
